A career built in the field
Randy began surveying when he was 14 years old. At the start of his career, he surveyed for Jordan Jones & Goulding in Atlanta, GA, for 10 years. His next employer was Howell Engineering in Birmingham, AL, for 6 years. He kept gaining experience at Robinson Paving in Columbus, GA (5 years), ARD Contracting in Birmingham, AL (3 years) and Arrington Engineering & Surveying in Hoover, AL (6 years).
That mix matters: engineering firms taught him design surveys and plats, paving and contracting companies taught him construction staking where every tenth of a foot costs money. In 2009 Randy took the Professional Land Surveyors exam. Upon passing the rigorous test, along with his years of experience in the field, he became a licensed Professional Land Surveyor (PLS). In 2010 he established Alabama Surveying and Mapping, Inc. in Clanton.
Today the firm works for homeowners, builders, developers, engineers, architects, lenders and public agencies – from a single lot in Chilton County to apartment sites in Georgia and national forest corners in Perry County.
